CASTLEPOLLARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Debating and Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Castlepollard Community College continues to encourage participation in Public Speaking for all students. As part of our ethos, we encourage students to be ambitious and to challenge themselves in several different extracurricular activities. We have an extensive debate and public speaking module in Transition Year, and this has encouraged many students to compete in the area. The school is continuing to build in opportunities for debating across all year groups in the form of societies and inter-tutor competitions.

Most notably, many of our female students have taken part in the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition, furthering their ability in the area, and developing their leadership skills. Every student who has taken part in this competition has represented the school with a huge degree of success and pride. We have been successful over the last two competitions as two of our students were nominated in the Mullingar Regional Competitions to represent the area in the Leinster Finals.

Our students have also been selected to speak at a Mullingar Toastmasters evening in recent years also.

We have a strong belief in the power of public speaking and what it can do to help develop students as leaders.
