At Junior Cycle, geography students’ interaction between people and the physical world. Geography promotes environmental consciousness and positive attitudes towards sustainable development. Students will complete two CBAs (Classroom Based Assessments). CBA 1- ‘Geography in the News’ is completed in second year. Students will have the opportunity to explore various topics of geography presented in the media. CBA 2 and Assessment Task- ‘My geography’ gives students the opportunity to explore aspects of geography in our local area and carry out a field study which develops key geographical skills.
At Senior Cycle, Geography students will study three core areas, an elective and an option (at higher level). The two core areas of physical and regional geography develop the geographical knowledge from Junior Cycle. All geography students will complete a geographical investigation which is worth 20% of the course.
In Transition Year, students study a variety of topics such as locational geography, sustainability, culture, weather, and climate in Geography. Transition Year Geography allows students to explore a new subject at senior cycle and prepare for Leaving Certificate Geography.
