Brief Outline of subject at Junior Cycle

The Junior Cycle syllabus is offered at both Higher and Ordinary level. At Junior Cycle, students are provided with the opportunity to reinforce and further develop their language skills and their knowledge and understanding acquired at primary level. In addition, the learners linguistic and cultural awareness are expanded over the three years of Junior Cycle.

Brief Outline of subject at Senior Cycle

Leaving Certificate Irish builds upon the language developed during the Junior Cycle. The Leaving Certificate course is assessed at three levels, Higher, Ordinary and Foundation Level. Over the course of Senior Cycle, there is a huge emphasis placed on communicative language skills as 50% of the overall marks are awarded for the students’ oral and aural competency. Students also have an opportunity to explore the language through a broad range of literature which incorporates various themes and topics. Students are also provided with the opportunity to express their opinions on current affairs through the written element of the paper.
