Brief Outline of subject at Junior Cycle

Maths is compulsory subject at Junior cert level. It is a STEM subject. It focuses on the development of numeracy skills and critical thinking. Students have either three or four classes of maths each week. Students participate in regular in class assessment of learning and for learning. They will complete two CBAs (Classroom Base Assessments) as part of the Maths Junior Cycle programme. They will sit a two hour exam at the end of their 3rd year at Higher or Ordinary Level.

Brief Outline of subject at Senior Cycle

Maths is a compulsory subject at Senior Cycle. It is a STEM subject. It focuses on the development of problem solving skills, critical thinking and resilience in working out problems. Students will sit two exam papers at the end of senior cycle in either Higher or Ordinary. Foundation level students sit one paper.

The subject at Transition Year

Maths is a compulsory subject in Transition Year. It is a STEM subject. It focuses on Maths in action in the real world. It reemphasises skills learnt at Junior cycle and also prepares students for Senior Cycle Topics. Students participate in exams and projects throughout the year that are credited which goes towards a final grade.
