CASTLEPOLLARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Hockey

The girls’ hockey team started last year with a few training sessions to establish whether there would be interested in forming a team the following year. We were amazed at the turn out.

Last September, under the guidance of Ms Leonard and Ms Kiernan the team set about training with a solid group of twenty players. This year was seen as a taster year where the school competed against traditionally strong sides from around the midlands.

The girls lined out against established hockey schools were delighted with their performances. The College were very competitive against and managed several wins, a draw and only one loss. These performances and the growing interest around the college has set a solid base for competitive fixtures in the coming year.

The uptake of the sport has been incredible with over 35 girls on the panel. We will be playing in the Leinster league next year and we look forward to the future of hockey in Castlepollard Community College.
